Frank Richard “Dick” Carney, 84, of Galion passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016 at Marion General Hospital.

Born May 31, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Francis M. and Helene (Noreen) Carney. He married Mary (Van Newaal) Carney on Jan. 11, 1969 and she survives.

He graduated high school in 1951 from New Lebanon Central High School in Lebanon Springs, New York and went on to serve his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy. He worked as a machinist at Watervliet Arsenal for 10 years and then retired from the Ford Motor Company in Green Island, New York in 1991. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Richard (Nancy) Carney of Dale City, Virginia, Robert (Nancy) Carney of Clifton Park, New York, Ray (Ann Sirtori) Carney, of Mechanicville, New York and Erin (Steve) Williams, of Galion; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Carney, of Clifton Park, New York; 14 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; his sister, Audrey Carney, of Brunswick, New York and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Carney and two brothers, Howard “Red” Carney and Bob Carney.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2016 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 S. Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 746 Cherry Street, Galion, Ohio 44833, with Father James D. O’Neill officiating. 

Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy and Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
