MANSFIELD — Virginia Imhoff, former president of Mansfield City Council, died Sunday morning at the age of 90.

Imhoff, a Republican, began her service on Mansfield City Council in 1988 as councilwoman at-large. She became president of council in 1995 and held that title until 2007.

Prior to serving on council, she was an educator for 35 years.

Imhoff served on a number of boards and committees over the years, including the Downtown Mansfield, Inc. Board of Directors.

Jennifer Kime, CEO of DMI, described Imhoff as “outspoken, strong, driven, willful and fearless.”

“Virginia was one of the trailblazers and I can’t say enough how much I learned from her,” Kime said. “I was honored to work with her and her work helped to lay the foundation of this community. She will be missed.”

Imhoff was a member of Altrusa International, Inc. of Mansfield starting in 1961 and was also a trustee for the North Central State College Foundation, the funding arm of North Central State College.

“She dearly loved animals,” said Barbara Huston, past president of Altrusa. “Usually you would see her out walking her Boxer while the kitty slumbered at home. She always had Boxers.”

Wappner Funeral Directors will be handling the funeral arrangements, which are pending at this time, according to Owner Bill Wappner.

This story will be updated when more details as they become available.
