MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Playhouse will open the youth theater production, Honk, Jr on the main stage Friday and Saturday, and again next weekend.

The story is focused on Ugly, who looks quite different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother’s protective flapping.

Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be.

The story is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s tale The Ugly Duckling. This delightful adaptation of one of the most beloved fables of all time is a quackingly good time, particularly for a family audience.

Jeremiah Viscioni stars as Ugly, with Grace Riegel as Ida, Cameron Wertz as Drake, Eryn Howard as Maureen and McKenna Stoffer as The Cat.

The remainder of the cast includes Samuel Hergatt, Emalie Green, Lillian Casey, Anna Schill, Jacob Green, Karlie Wilson, Kaden Gilland, Malorie Kinney, Leandra Viscioni, Cassandra Kurek, Sophia Fraley, McKenzie Anderson, Anna Perkins, Deanna Boyd, Ian Hergatt, Emma Hutchison-Deehr, Elina Gilland, Emily Smollen, Samantha Steinhause, Samantha Frayley, Madeline Hansen, Logan Rose.

The book and lyrics are by Anthony Drewe with the music by George Stiles. This production is directed by Doug Wertz, with musical direction by Craig Green.
