ASHLAND – An annual tradition at Corner Park returns Friday, June 10, as the United Way’s Fun, Fabulous Fridays enters its 10th summer.

“Fun, Fabulous Fridays are a great way to spend a few hours with your family and friends,” said Amy Nye, community outreach coordinator for the United Way of Ashland County. “There’s great food, entertainment and fun. Come out and share some laughs and have a lot of fun with us.”

The United Way’s Fun, Fabulous Fridays offer free food and entertainment for families and businesses biweekly throughout the summer at Corner Park at the intersection of Claremont Avenue and Main Street. In case of bad weather, the event moves to the Salvation Army Kroc Center gymnasium, 527 E. Liberty St.

The food and entertainment will be offered each Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Donations will be accepted and will benefit United Way of Ashland County.

The first 2016 event this Friday will feature the bi-annual crowd-favorite Mascot Day, as more than 20 mascots will interact with and entertain those in attendance. For the first time, Chomps, the mascot for the Cleveland Browns, will make an appearance. Other mascots confirmed to attend include Ashland University’s Tuffy the Eagle and the United Way’s mascot, Sydney the Caring Koala.

In addition, community and civic leaders will serve as celebrity cooks for the “Hot Dog Days of Summer.”

“There is no better way to kick off our Fun, Fabulous Fridays than to start with our very popular Mascot Day #5,” said Ev DeVaul, executive director of the United Way of Ashland County. “With over 20 mascots and a beautiful day at the Corner Park we will bring great family fun for the Ashland community.”

Themes and special events for the remainder of the summer include:

  • June 24, Favorite Old T-Shirt Day, featuring musical entertainment from Kelly Knowlton and food from Buffalo Wild Wings.
  • July 8, Cake Walk Day, with music from the Kroc Center Dixieland Band and food sponsored by WalMart.
  • July 15, the event moves to Central Park in Loudonville from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and features piano entertainment with Steve Brown and Colonial Manor sponsoring the food.
