MANSFIELD — North central Ohio art enthusiasts are encouraged to stop by to see student artwork at Artapolooza at Mid-Ohio ESC this week.
The artwork of students representing 20 area schools is being featured Friday, April 15, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, April 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Artapolooza is an annual celebration of art in education. Family art workshops are offered on Friday evening, April 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. and will include the magic of Marc Chagall and the artistry of jewelry making. On Saturday morning, April 16, from 10 a.m. to noon, families can create an original piece of art with recyclables, try their hand at paper folding techniques with origami or experience Koru metal tooling.
Local artists and teachers volunteer their time and talents. A $5 materials fee is requested payable in cash at the door. No registration is necessary.
An Artists’ Reception will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. with an awards ceremony at 1 p.m.
Schools participating include Buckeye Central, Bucyrus, Cardington-Lincoln, Crestline, Foundation Academy, Futures, Galion, Highland Lucas, Mansfield, Mansfield Christian, Ontario, Plymouth-Shiloh, Sacred Heart (Shelby), Shelby, St. Bernard (New Washington), St. Joseph (Galion), St. Mary (Shelby) and St. Mary (Mansfield).
On Friday, more than 70 art students and their teachers are participating in an all-day workshop, where they will study patterns found in nature. Retired art teachers Tom Bachelder and Mark Sommer will lead the workshop, as participants create a 2-D original piece of art using pencils and pastel chalk.
