MANSFIELD — Mansfield’s Civitan is hosting a movie screening on Monday, April 11 to show “Alive Inside,” a documentary exploring the significance of music in Alzheimer’s patients.
The 2014 film won the Audience Award from the Sundance Film Festival, among other accolades. Mansfield Civilian President Sandy Stout hopes the film will inspire viewers to help bring music to elderly citizens living in Mansfield’s nursing homes.
“I dare you to walk into that movie, watch it, and come out untouched by it,” Stout said of “Alive Inside.”
Stout’s mother, 93, resides in Mansfield’s Conard House Assisted Living. She said her mother, who is legally blind, often feels isolated and like no one cares about her. But bring her some gospel music and she will light up, Stout said.
“My dream is that people would see the movie and want to donate things to help get nursing homes mp3 players and headsets,” Stout said.
She described a friend who viewed the film and after, felt so moved that he went out and bought 15 mp3 players and headsets to give away to nursing homes.
“Some of these people in assisted living (facilities) and nursing homes are sitting around doing nothing,” Stout noted.
Mansfield Civitan has worked with Cinemark 14 in Ontario to reserve one theater on Monday, April 11 at 11 a.m. Stout said there is limited seating available and to RSVP for a ticket by calling Theresa at 419-946-1906.
Limited tickets are available free of charge.
