MANSFIELD — Mick and Cindy McCune are selling their Mansfield business of 38 years, McCune Cycle World, Inc., to Iron Pony Motorsports Group of Westerville.

McCune Cycle World, 327 Ashland Road, is a multi-line powersports dealership that sells brands including Honda, Suzuki, Polaris, KTM, Victory and Kawasaki in the northern Ohio market.

“Our Pony Powersports Group has had a smaller market dealership planned for many years and we feel the greater Mansfield market is a good launching ground for this concept,” said Tammy Jones, vice president of Iron Pony Motorsports Group.

Chris Jones, Iron Pony Motorsports Group president and CEO, said Iron Pony Motorsports Group is always on the hunt to add solid multi-line powersports dealerships throughout Ohio to its growing group of businesses.

“Especially dealerships that serve areas where we see great growth potential,” Jones said.

Family-owned, Iron Pony Motorsports Group has a 40-year history and is made up of the following divisions: Pony Powersports Dealership (sales and service of new and used powersports vehicles), Iron Pony Motorsports Retail Superstore (Powersports sales of parts, apparel and accessories), Iron Pony Direct (e-commerce and mail-order sales of powersports parts, apparel and accessories), Iron Pony Riding Academy (motorcycle rider training for both new and experienced riders) and EagleRider Columbus (motorcycle rental division).

“We’ve had a very good 38 years,” Cindy said.

The McCunes, who are retiring, are happy to see the business go to Iron Pony Motorsports Group, Cindy said.

“It’s a very, very progressive company, so I think they’ll do very well,” she said. “We’re very happy about that transition.”

Frank Lark, vice president of marketing and growth manager, said Iron Pony Motorsports Group is looking forward to combining a “mini version” of its store with an established multiline dealership.

“Our small-market powersports parts, apparel and accessories store will be called Iron Pony Express, and the former McCune’s Cycle World, Inc. powersports dealership will now fly under our Pony Powersports Group flag,” he said.

Alan Schatz, operations manager, noted, “We have operated three distinct-sized businesses (small, mid-sized and superstore) successfully over the history of our company, and are well versed in the unique opportunities we will face in Mansfield, Ohio.”

McCune Cycle World, Inc. operations will be fully handed over to Iron Pony Motorsports Group this month. All existing staff of the current dealership in Mansfield have been offered positions with Pony Powersports Group, or Iron Pony Express, according to a press release.
