MANSFIELD — The Heart of Ohio Council for the Boy Scouts of America have a new Silver Beaver Award winner.

The eight-year Veteran scout Dale Fortney, of Ashland, has been selected the highest award bestowed on a local scouter for outstanding volunteer service. Fortney is the Johnny Appleseed Trail District Commissioner.

“Through his outstanding dedication and guidance, the district was recognized with Journey to Excellence God status in 2015,” Amy Heller said.

Fortney has been a committee member and assistant scoutmaster of Troop 4586 in Ashland. He was a merit badge counselor and committee member of Post 4700 sponsored by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and was a committee member of Pack 9111.

Fortney is wood badge trained — the highest level of adult scout leader training available. He has also earned the Triple Crown High Adventure Award, bestowed on participants of at least one qualifying high adventure program at ayn three of the Boy Scouts of America four National High Adventure bases.

“Dale has been a positive influence in the community through his career in law enforcement.,” Heller said.

Fortney will receive his Silver Beaver award at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center on Saturday, April 9 at 5:30 p.m.
