Galion Schools

GALION — A Crestline 18-year-old was arrested Thursday after Galion Police say the student made threats on social media that he was “’bout to shoot up Galion Schools.”

The student was not in the immediate area, therefore Galion City Schools did not go into lockdown, according to a press release issued by the Galion Police Department.

“This is a great example of law enforcement working with each other and with the schools for the protection of our students. Immediate action and cooperation led to the quick apprehension of the suspect,” Galion Police Chief Brian Saterfield said. “Threats made through social media are taken seriously as those that are made in person.”

Galion police say the social media post was found at 7:32 a.m. Thursday morning, prompting a search for the individual. Authorities, including officers assisting from the Crestline Police Department, Bucyrus Police Department and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, found the suspect in the Loveland area, a suburb of Cincinnati.

The Loveland Police Department arrested the teen after obtaining an arrest warrant for “making terroristic threats.” Authorities are trying to determine the context and nature of the threat.
