MANSFIELD, Ohio — Shots were fired after an argument between boyfriend and girlfriend escalated when a 12-year-old called 911 from a house on Heineman Avenue Saturday around 11:30 a.m.
“The caller, which was a 12-year-old, said that the boyfriend had a gun,” Sergeant Mike Napier said.
According to Napier, no one was injured, but that the man, who’s identity was not released, was arrested. He said they seized the gun, which according to dispatch was a .380 caliber Beretta pistol.
“He’ll be charged with weapons under disability — he’s a convicted felon — and for discharging a firearm in the city as of right now,” Napier said.
Approximately seven units responded to the scene, including a K9 unit.
Napier did not know the nature of the couple’s argument, although he said the boyfriend did not live at the scene of the incident.
Per protocol, MPD called Richland County Children Services to the scene to assess the family situation. The child, according to Napier, belongs to the girlfriend.
“Anytime a situation like this happens with children in the home, we bring Children Services there so they’re aware that this is happening in that house with that child,” Napier said.
