MANSFIELD, Ohio – For the second day in a row, Mansfield Middle School and Senior High were evacuated Wednesday afternoon after a threat was found on a bathroom wall.
According to District Spokesperson Larry Gibbs, a threat found written in a Mansfield Senior High School restroom late Wednesday morning warned that everyone must be out of the building by 1:55 p.m.
Because of the threat, high school and middle school students were evacuated on foot to Arlin Field. As a sea of students evacuated the Mansfield Senior High School building on foot, Mansfield Police Department directed traffic on West Fourth Street.
“We’re doing the same thing we did yesterday,” said officer R. Swisher, visibly frustrated. She and four other officers directed traffic as students evacuated the school building.
Parents with ID may pick up their students in the lower parking lot along Trimble Road. Students not picked up will be bused home at the regular dismissal time.
Science teacher Brad Kentosh said parents need to understand the school’s obligation to the law when it comes to evacuating students.
“Parents get upset and get irritated that there’s protocol. We’re not, by law, permitted to release these kids without parental permission until 2:40 [p.m.]. I think we’ve done very well … We can’t just let a bunch of kids walk out,” said Kentosh.
The high school and middle school evacuation follows an evacuation Wednesday morning at Malabar Intermediate School after a threat was found on a bathroom wall in that building.
