MANSFIELD, Ohio — One of Mansfield’s favorite lunch stops expanded to a second location on Thursday.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the opening of Doc’s, The Cure for the Common Sandwich, at the Mansfield YMCA, 750 Scholl Rd.
“The Y called us and asked us to think about having a little grab-and-go station for their members,” said Doc’s co-owner Susan Vander Maas. “Then they were gracious enough to allow non-members to come in and stop here, too.”
Doc’s Deli has long been a staple at 424 Glessner, Ave., across from the hospital.
The newest outlet will have a significantly scaled-down menu focused on healthy lunch options.
“We were really just looking to give our members more amenities,” said Cristen Gilbert, of the YMCA. “But we’re also at the hub of the social services center, so people can stop in for a quick lunch, too.”
The menu features chicken salad croissant, vegan wrap, roast beef and turkey sandwiches. There are a variety of salads, assorted fruit, protein bars, hummus and flat bread and a meat and cheese tray with crackers.
A box lunch includes a whole or half-sandwich, salad and a pickle.
“We’re going to start out with hours Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and hopefully expand,” Vander Maas said.
Mayor Tim Theaker and local philanthropist Doc Stumbo were among a gathering that attended the ceremony.
“I could certainly eat healthier,” Theaker chuckled while patting his stomach.
He then clipped the red ribbon and officially opened Mansfield’s newest lunch counter.
