LEXINGTON, Ohio — Lexington Village Council appointed Andy Smallstey as the village administrator during its meeting on Monday, Oct. 5.
Smallstey has served as assistant village administrator since January, working alongside police Chief Brett Pauley, who had been named interim village administrator after former village administrator, Aaron Wiegand, resigned.
Smallstey, a Mansfield Senior graduate of 1989, joined the Lexington Police Department in 1992 as a dispatcher. While working in that position, he said that he handled most of the informational technology work for the entire police department.
In October of 2010, Smallstey became the IT coordinator for the village. Later, he took on some administrative duties, including overseeing zoning.
Now as administrative director, he said he’s started to review some of the services of the village “whether it’s our insurance, or it could be something as simple as uniforms for our utility workers–things like that,” he said. He seeks to answer the question, “Is what we’re paying for the best option for the village?”
“That’s what I’ve started to look at because some things might not be the best route for the village to take,” he said.
He’s looking forward to serving the city in this capacity and is grateful for his fellow village employees, noting that several department supervisors have 20-plus years of experience.
“And when you have that kind of experience, it makes that portion of my job very easy,” he said.
