MANSFIELD, Ohio – OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital was honored Tuesday morning by the American Cancer Society with a 2014 Corporate Excellence Award.

According to Kristen Hurst, ACS Account Manager for Hospital Systems, the award recognizes workplaces that have gone above and beyond to support the ACS in its mission.

“OhioHealth MedCentral is extremely involved in our American Cancer Society events and mission side of our organization,” said Terri Kangas, Community Manager for the ACS Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. “They support our programs and services as well as our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. And this was the Corporate Excellence Award that we wanted to present to the hospital and thank them for all their support and continued support for 2015.”

“We’re very grateful for all that you do and continue to do to help serve your patients in the area,” said Hurst.

Patti Kastelic, Director of Cancer Services for OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital, explained the many cancer-related programs the hospital takes part in, including a wig bank, a recovery program for mastectomy patients, transportation services, and many fund-raisers including the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

Kangas said last year there were 10 registered teams from OhioHealth MedCentral with 169 walkers who raised between $9,000 and $10,000 during Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

“Our relationship with the American Cancer Society goes way back. The faces just change and get a little older. But the initiatives are always there, and that is to help our cancer patients in the community,” Kastelic said.

Kangas said the hospital’s cooperation allows the ACS to reach patients and share information about the valuable services the organization offers.
