MANSFIELD, Ohio — Comedians Tammy Pescatelli, Jimmy Shubert and Tom Simmons will perform stand-up comedy as part of the 29th Annual Third Saturday in August (TSIA) Comedy Club at the Renaissance Theatre, Saturday, Aug. 15 at 8 p.m.

TSIA, which has featured popular comedians like Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy, aims to provide a fun and entertaining evening for attendees, without the use of crude humor, said event organizer Sam VanCura.

For each show, “I try to choose clean acts,” VanCura said. He added that he tries to hire comedians who haven’t yet performed for TSIA and those who may be “on their way up to becoming a national act.”

He and his wife, Janet, enjoy attending comedy shows, which is how they come up with some of their acts. “When we travel, we try to go to comedy shows and pick people that would fit our show,” he said.

Other acts come as recommendations. That was the case for each performer in the upcoming show.

“Jimmy Shubert was a recommendation from a guy who played our show two years ago,” said VanCura. “I think he’ll be a hit.”

Pescatelli was recommended by an agent who also recommended comedian Rocky LaPorte for last year’s show, “who was just unbelievably hilarious,” VanCura commented.

“Unlike years in the past, I’ve had two people that recognized two of the names on our show this year, and those two people both recognized Tammy, saying that they really liked her gig,” VanCura said.

VanCura has high expectations for the 29th TSIA, noting that with each new show, “I always think it’s going to be the best show we ever present.”

He added, “I always say if somebody doesn’t think they got their money’s worth, I’ll refund their money up to what think they should have paid.”

Tickets cost $25 and may be purchased by calling VanCura at 419-529-0099, or via the Renaissance Theatre, located at 138 Park Avenue West.
