ONTARIO, Ohio — Nearly 50 “celebrities” from all over Richland County congregated Wednesday morning for the Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging’s “Eggstravaganza Fundraiser.”
The event’s proceeds will contribute to the purchase and installment of an American flag at the agency’s Park Avenue West headquarters to honor veterans.
Modern Woodmen of America agreed to match up to $2,500 of the funds raised. The celebrities included presidents, CEOs and business leaders of Richland County organizations. They prepared omelets and pancakes. Fruit and muffins were also available for breakfast.
Director of Food and Nutrition of OhioHealth MedCentral Greg Brandes was one of the celebrity chefs Wednesday morning. He was excited to see different organizations from Richland County eager to work together for a good cause: to raise money for a symbol of progress.
“The [American] flag is about moving past differences and moving toward the common good of the nation,” said Brandes.
CEO of Area Agency on Aging Duana Patton said the fundraiser event just seemed like the right thing to do.
“We serve veterans, we want to honor them with the flag,” said Patton. She estimated that after the Eggstravaganza event, the agency would be three-fourths of the way to raising the necessary funds for the flag.
“The goal is to have it in by Sept. 11 this year,” she said.
Along with progress and honor, RN and Case Manager for Area Agency on Aging Elaine Overly said the flag symbolizes many things.
“It most certainly symbolizes unity of our country and the tradition of caring for human life. The Area Agency on Aging is a part of that tradition,” said Overly.
