BUTLER, Ohio – Clear Fork Resort’s Facebook page this week announced the resort’s closing. Resort representatives could not immediately be reached for comment.

A suit was filed June 9, 2014 by Cache Private Capital Diversified Fund LLC, naming Slater Run Land Development LLC, Resorts Incorporated, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, and Richland County Treasurer as defendants, according to the Richland County Common Pleas Court website. An initial foreclosure scheduling conference was scheduled for Sept. 22. Cache’s claim in the suit was that over $2.45 million was due in full on Jan. 25, 2014.

During a July 2014 interview with Richland Source, Kelly Donaldson, CFR General Operations Manager at the time, reported the resort planned to maintain operations.

According to the Richland County Common Pleas Court website, a garnishment was issued on Jan. 23 of this year and another on April 21 of this year to Slater Run Land Development LLC.

The resort was founded in 1963 by Resorts Inc., which was owned by Joe and Edie (Black) Humphrey, but was closed at the end of the 2004-2005 ski season, noted Donaldson. The property was later reopened when the partners of Slater Run Land Development entered into a land contract agreement with Resorts Inc. in January of 2011.

In 2013, a “formal purchase” was made to fulfill Slater Run Land Development’s obligation to Resorts Inc, with funding assistance from Cache.

A May 14 post on the resort’s Facebook page states, “As of May 14, 2015 Clear Fork Resort is officially closed. There will not be any upcoming events. We would like to thank everyone for your support and patronage over the last 4 1/2 years and we express our best wishes to all!!”

Richland Source will post further updates as they become available.
