MANSFIELD, Ohio – Downtown Mansfield has a new decorative wallscape thanks to the combined efforts of North Central State College, Richland Academy, and the District 5 Area Agency on Aging.

The artwork, visible on North Main Street across from the Carrousel, is a product of the “Different Strokes” senior art class held at Richland Academy and sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging.

North Central State College Director of Marketing and Public Relations Keith Stoner said the project was a great opportunity to partner with other entities and showcase downtown.

The theme of the wallscape is “Grow with us,” and Stoner said he felt that the artwork conveyed that very well.

“I was impressed with the breadth of what we got. We had a tremendous cross-section of vision of what a tree would look like. Everything from the dormant winter variety to full bloom, midsummer,” he said. “I was impressed by the visons of the types of trees, the colors. It was really a dynamic, versatile look at a number of different types of trees and they really captured what we had hoped to – we want the growth of Mansfield continuing; we want to nurture that.”

As part of the upcoming Richland Academy Art Show, the “Different Strokes” artists will be on hand to show their recent work and celebrate the use of their paintings as part of the new wallscape.

The art show and sale, as well as the official unveiling of the wallscape, will take place at Richland Academy, located at 75 North Walnut Street in Mansfield, from 5-7 p.m.

Over 20 local artists will be featured in the show. More than 80 pieces will on display and for sale.

Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
