MANSFIELD, Ohio — (Updated March 31, 2015) A 19-year-old Mansfield man has been arrested in connection with a shooting Monday in Johns Park.

Khairi A. Bond was arrested on a felonious assault warrant after Jacques Sutton, 23, was shot in the right arm/elbow area.

Mansfield police responded to a report of shots fired in Johns Park in Mansfield on Monday shortly after noon. Police found one victim who was transported to OhioHealth MedCentral. 

“At this time we’re still investigating. We’re not sure what the incident was over or what caused it,” said Capt. Shari Robertson.

Robertson said residents reported that the shooting occured on the basketball court in Johns Park. According to residents, “the victim was shot, ran around a few times and then got into a vehicle to get medical attention,” said Robertson.

The Mansfield Major Crimes Unit arrived at the scene and applied red tape, signifying a crime scene.

Bullet holes were found in the windows of a house and blood was splattered on the sidewalk on Stocking Avenue across from the basketball court at Johns Park.

There are no more details to release at this time as to what led to the shooting as the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to contact Major Crimes Detective Frank Parrella at 419-755-9470.

The vehicle that transported the victim to OhioHealth MedCentral has been seized by Mansfield Police Department for continuing investigation.

OhioHealth MedCentral Manager of Communications and Media Relations Christina Thompson confirmed there is an area in the hospital’s ER entrance taped off. “The ER is still open though. Anyone that needs to come to the hospital still can,” added Thompson.
