CRESTLINE, Ohio – The Crestline Police Department is under criminal investigation for alleged criminal misconduct. Jill Delgreco of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in Columbus confirmed Monday the case continues to be under investigation.

The allegation was found originally on a Crestline resident’s Facebook page. Resident Matt Carroll wrote in a post: “It’s funny how Crestline cops are trading tickets for sexual favors. Something needs to be done.” The post was shared during Crestline’s council meeting on January 12.

Mayor David Sharrock then said he would investigate the matter. After investigating, Sharrock, Crawford County’s Prosecutor Matt Crall, and Crestline’s Chief of Police Joseph Butler decided to request BCI investigate further.

“I didn’t see anything that would lead to a lot but I wanted to have an outside source,” said Sharrock.

“The allegations were made on Facebook. Not much can be gleaned from that–which is why it’s under investigation. Many people seem to be angry and in good reason,” stated Crall. “But I haven’t been given any information to give any sort of comment,” he added.

Delgreco could not release names of suspects because she said no charges have been made. And Delgreco was unsure of how long the investigation might take.
