MANSFIELD, Ohio – Mansfield City Schools (MCS) Financial Planning and Oversight Commission Chairperson Paul Marshall wanted the record to reflect that district treasurer, Rosetta L. Stephens, was not in attendance at the regular monthly meeting on Thursday.

“I would like the minutes to reflect that the treasurer was not here, despite the boards specific directions to her to attend our meetings,” Marshall said. “At our last meeting we passed a resolution, among other things, directing her to attend our meetings.”

Marshall said there is a statutory process that will be followed in regards to Stephens not following the “set of directives” issued by the financial commission.

“I’ll be in contact with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office to see how we should proceed,” he said.

The Mansfield City School district was declared to be in fiscal emergency by the state in 2013. The financial commission has been tasked with helping to get the district’s finances in order.

In other business, Ohio State Auditor’s Assistant Laura Brown said she has been working on the district’s financial forecast on and off for the past couple of weeks.

“As soon as we can schedule a day to sit down with the treasurer and go over everything, we’ll wrap that up and get it to review,” she said.

The commission also approved purchases over $5,000, including for the school board to contract with the Richland County Board of Development Disabilities for services regarding special needs students

The next MCS Financial Commission meeting will be at 4 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the board of education office at 856 W. Cook Rd.
