MANSFIELD, Ohio – The Madison School Board of Education met Wednesday for their organizational meeting as well as their regular monthly meeting.
Jeff Meyers was named the board president in a 3 to 2 vote by board members. John Luedy was named the vice president of Madison’s board of education.
Members of the board choose to stick with the same meeting time and place of 6 p.m. on the last Wednesday of every month in the Madison Middle School auditorium. Since the date of the regular meetings are close to the holidays, Meyers went ahead and set the meeting in November for the 18th and December 16 at 6 p.m.
According to the Ohio School Board Association, Governor John Kasich has declared January as School Board Recognition Month, said Madison schools Superintendent Lee Kaple.
“What I have for all the school board members tonight is just a small token of our appreciation,” Kaple said.
Kaple then presented the board members with a framed certificate that read: “With sincere appreciation for exemplary leadership and service to public schools.”
“I want to give all of you my sincere appreciation with all of the hard work that you do for the children of Madison,” he said. “We are all working as a team and I can assure you as superintendent that when I go to this board, I know one thing for sure, the decisions we make are in line with what’s best for our kids – and that means a lot to me as superintendent, that’s what it’s all about. It’s about the kids and the students.”
In other business, High School Principal Rob Peterson gave the monthly administrators report in which he gave an update on the first quarter of school.
“From the first quarter we had 221 students on the honor roll, which is about 24 percent of our student body, so we are very proud of that. That (number) is up a little bit from how we did last year,” Peterson said. “I don’t know exactly how many athletes we had in the fall but we did have 134 of our athletes obtain a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the first quarter. This is another thing we are very proud of.”
The next regular monthly Madison board of education meeting will at 6 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Madison Middle School Auditorium, 1419 Grace St., Mansfield.
