GALION, Ohio – The Galion City Council meeting was the shortest in recent memory, just 25 minutes, with only one ordinance on the agenda and a new way of communicating.

One resident thanked the mayor and the street department for the good job of plowing the streets. “I hope the people of Galion appreciate it. They’re [the street department] doing a good job.”

The only ordinance on the agenda is historically the first ordinance of each year, authorizing the safety service director to go out for bids and enter into contracts for the city. “We need Mr. Swain to appropriate the materials to keep the city running,” said Councilman Thomas Fellner, who motioned to approve the ordinance as an emergency. The ordinance passed unanimously as an emergency.

New to council this year are videos of Galion council meeting. Live stream of committee meetings and regular council meetings can be viewed at Livestream Galion.

Councilman Michael Richart commented that even with the frigid temperatures, many people were able to attend the Utilities Committee meeting via the Facebook Livestream Galion. Video will be available for viewing after the meetings.

In other business, two new members have been appointed to the Freeze Grant Advisory Board: Gar Gledhill and Lonnie Eagle. Members of the Board of Zoning Appeals were also announced at the meeting: Marty Cecil, Judy Gibson, Rich Henry, Dee Volk, Jeanie Isley, Gail Baldinger and Kevin Faeth.
