MANSFIELD, Ohio – Mechanics Bank at 2 South Main Street in downtown Mansfield reopened around 1 p.m. Monday afternoon after a robbery in which an undisclosed amount of money was taken around 10:23 a.m. on Monday morning.

According to Captain Brett Snavely of the Mansfield Police Department a white female reportedly handed one of the tellers a note. The use of a weapon has not been reported.

Mechanics Bank President Debra Schenk confirmed that a woman wearing a hooded jacket entered through the main door and demanded cash. She said the suspect was in and out very quickly.

Schenk said the bank closed until 1 p.m. to “debrief and reenergize.”

She noted that the Mansfield Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were on the scene very quickly, and that she was grateful for their very professional and compassionate handling of the situation.

Schenk added that she was grateful for the professionalism of the bank staff. “They did everything they were supposed to do,” she said.

Snavely said the investigation is still in its early stages, so no further description of the suspect can be released at this time. The FBI, Mansfield Police Department’s Detective Bureau and the Crime Lab are investigating the incident.

“We are still in the early stages. They will look at the security cameras to see if they can identify the perpetrator,” said Snavely.

Despite the recent surge of robberies in Richland County, Snavely said no others have involved a white female.
