Paul L. Shepard, 71, of Crestline, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 at Galion Community Hospital, Galion, after an extended illness.

Paul was born in Crestline, on Sept. 8, 1943 to the late Edwin L. and Helen L. (Speelman) Shepard.  He married Lynn R. Saunders on May 5, 1979 and she survives him.

Paul was born and raised in Crestline and a 1962 graduate of Crestline High School.  He was a member of the Crestline United Methodist Church, Crestline.  Paul was employed by General Motors as a crane operator until his retirement in 2002.  He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #859 and VFW Post #2920, both of Crestline.  He raced dirt track motorcycles, had a pilot’s license and loved planes.  Paul enjoyed camping, fishing, NASCAR golfing, and watching the Food Network channel.  Spending time with his grandkids was his favorite pastime.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his two daughters; Jeannie Reid, Mansfield, and Michelle (Eric) Sell, Savannah, GA;  his ten grandchildren; Aaron (Laurel) Buckner, Erica Buckner, Emily Buckner, Nathaniel Reid, Natalie Reid, Kodi Sell, Evan Sell, Ciara Sell, Abagael Sell, Kymberly Sell; his two great-grandchildren; Alyvia Buckner and Reagan Buckner, his four sisters; Linda (Wayne) Biglin, Sue Fuson, Mary Miller, and Diana (John) Hayes, all of Crestline.

He was preceded in death by his stillborn daughter, Stacey Marie Shepard, and his brother, Melvin Shepard.

Friends may call Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline.  Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 223 West Main St., Crestline, Ohio 44827, with Pastor Becky Weamer and Deacon Bill Horning officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the family in care of the funeral home.
