MADISON TOWNSHIP — Madison girls basketball coach Brian Carr has been suspended after pleading no contest to a charge of attempted negligent assault in Shelby Municipal Court late last month.
Carr was arrested on domestic violence charges at his home in Plymouth in late August. According to court documents, Carr was fined $200 and sentenced to 30 days in jail with all 30 days suspended as long as he didn’t commit any similar violations during a two-year probationary period. Judge Jon P. Schaefer also ordered Carr to receive anger management counseling after pleading to the lesser charge, a fourth degree misdemeanor.
Madison superintendent Lee Kaple and athletic director Doug Rickert declined to comment on the situation Tuesday afternoon. Kaple said the district will continue to review the matter.
“(Assistant coach) Brian Davis will serve as the interim head coach for the time being,” Kaple said.
Carr was hired to replace Ron Hetler in May of 2012. He does not teach in the school district.
