Jean Metzger, age 79, of Shelby, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014 at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
She was born January 20, 1935 in Shelby, the daughter of the late Ray Leonard and Florence Margaret (Kahler) Furney. She was a 1953 graduate of Shelby High School and retired in 1997 from Shelby Insurance Company after 19 years of service. Jean was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Jean enjoyed ceramics as she had her own shop where she made and sold many types of decorative wares including the ever popular lighted Christmas trees. As a homemaker, she liked to cook and share her meals with her family. She especially loved the times she spent with her beloved grandchildren and her feline friends.
Jean is survived by her 4 children: Mary (Mark) Ashley of Cincinnati, Debora Aebersold of Delaware, Stephen (Kelleah) Metzger of Shelby, and Susan Metzger of Shelby; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a brother: Roger (Linda) Furney of Shelby; Nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
As per Jean’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 31 N. Gamble St., Shelby, with Rev. Joe L. Ashby officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh. Memorial expressions may be made to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 .
