Brig. Gen. Michael R. Taheri, commander of the Air National Guard Readiness Center presents the Air National Guard Director of Safety Outstanding Achievement Award to Col. Gary A. McCue, commander of the 179th Airlift Wing, Mansfield, Ohio. The award was presented for the wing’s overall safety programs, with emphasis on its transition from the C-27 Spartan to the C-130H Hercules.

In early 2013, under aviation force structure changes in the Fiscal Year 2013 National Defense Authorization Act, the Secretary of the Air Force announced the adjustments of the Total Force Proposal (TFP) and Intra-theater Airlift Working Group (IAWG). Those adjustments included the divesting four C-27J Spartan aircraft from Mansfield and returning eight C-130H Hercules to the 179th Airlift Wing.

The final two C-130H Hercules, completing the 179th’s fleet of eight C-130Hs arrived at the Mansfield base in October.
