MORROW COUNTY – There is “nothing new that voters need to know,” said Penny Porter, director of the Morrow County Board of Elections. “Everything is posted on our website.” Porter would like to remind voters of the office hours for the Board of Elections: Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed Friday. On the day of the election the polls will open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. Absentee voting began Sept. 20 for overseas voters and started Oct. 7 for regular absentee voting.
Morrow County will vote for one commissioner with Republican Tom Whiston going up against a write-in candidate, Warren Davis. Republican Patricia K. Davies is running uncontested for Morrow County Auditor.
County school districts asking for more funding are Buckeye Valley (additional 30-year, 2.9 mills for school facilities), River Valley (additional 5-year, 1.5 mills for permanent improvements), Pioneer (replacement continuing 1.7 mills for current expenses), and Tri-Rivers (additional 10-year 0.5 mills to purchase sites and enlarge services).
The Morrow County EMS is on the ballot twice with one levy up for renewal (5-year 2 mills) and an additional 5-year 0.5 mills levy. Chesterville village is going for a replacement of 5-year 4 mills for current expenses. Sparta village is going for two renewals, a 5-year 2 mill and a 5-year 3.4 mill for current expenses.
Morrow County Townships are on the ballot as well: Chester (renewal 5-year 3.5 mills for roads and 5-year 1.5 mills for cemeteries), Congress (a 5-year 0.5 mill renewal for roads), Franklin (a 5-year additional 1.5 mills for fire), Perry-Congress fire district (renewal of 0.5 mill for 5 years for fire), Troy (renewal of 5-year 1.25 mills for roads), Washington (a 3-year 1 mill renewal for fire), and Westfield (a 3-year 2 mills replacement for roads).
Bennington Township West has two requests for liquor licenses: Santmyer Retails Operations/Marengo Mart for beer and another for wine and mixed beverages.
