GALION – On Friday, Oct. 11 at about 11 a.m. the southeast side of Galion experienced a power outage. Two members of the Galion Line Department team were doing routine testing on one of the lower wattage transformers at the Dawsett Street Substation when an accident occurred sending both men to the hospital. A power outage that lasted hours also occurred.
“We’re still not sure what happened,” said Mayor Tom O’Leary adding that the line department is still investigating the exact cause of the outage. “This just drives home the need for completion of the upgrade.”
Dawsett Substation is one of the last on the overall electrical upgrade plan.
One injured member of the line department was treated and released. The other was transported to a Columbus hospital.
O’Leary stated the accident could have been worse. The line department has recently upgraded their protective equipment that both men were wearing at the time.
