Experience has taught us that people running for public office are apt to say whatever they think will gain the support of the voters. But once in a while a candidate comes along who actually means what they say. This is a story about such a person.
Last Halloween night I attended a meeting at the downtown library where the candidates running for Judge Henson’s seat were presenting themselves. The three candidates all seemed qualified.
One of the candidates stated that his main reason for wanting the position was that he had a strong desire to protect the community. The meeting ran a little late, and the front doors had already been bolted before we could leave. That evening I had not driven downtown and had to wait for my ride home.
I went out through the parking garage and walked to the front of the library. It was quite deserted there, a damp and raw night, and the only door behind me was firmly bolted. Needless to say it made me feel very uncomfortable, so I walked back to the parking garage to wait there.
No sooner had I taken up a post where I could remain relatively unseen while watching for my ride, when a man came up and asked if I would like him to wait with me. I turned and looked.
It was Brent Robinson. I immediately said ‘yes’ and we had a very nice time talking until my ride arrived. On the way home, it occurred to me that Brent Robinson was the candidate who had stated that he wanted to protect the community. As far as I am concerned, he proved it that very evening. He could have gone on his way, but he saw me waiting alone and offered his protection from any harm that might have come my way.
I fully intend to vote for Brent Robinson for judge, and I urge you to do the same. He is a man of his word, and will keep his word to protect the citizens of our community.
