Based on the smash-hit film, Hairspray, Jr.–set in 1962–tells the story of spunky, Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad, who has one big dream — to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When she finally gets her shot, she’s transformed from social outcast to sudden star. In balancing her new-found power with her desire for justice, Tracy fights to dethrone the reigning Miss Teen Hairspray, Amber von Tussle, and integrate a TV network in the process. With the help of her larger-than-life mom, Edna, and guest DJ Motormouth Maybelle, the rhythm of Tracy’s new beat just might prove unstoppable.

Hairspray, Jr. is a family-friendly musical filled with laughter, delightfully tuneful songs, and a host of diverse roles. The show is adapted from the Original Broadway musical, which won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.

Hairspray, Jr. features music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, including “Good Morning, Baltimore” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” and the book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan.
