Lexington’s Blueberry Festival kicked off on Thursday night with music, food, and family fun. Lexington Community Park was filled with people enjoying the cool summer evening. Crowds flooded the midway and adjoining park.
The festival opened with a musical performance by Juvenile Mindset, followed by Blue Moonshine, and a Local Guitar Stars jam session from guitarists of local bands.
Each of the over twenty food vendors offers blueberry menu items or novelties. From blueberry burgers to pies and many berry treats in between, the festival food gives many nods to its namesake.
The festival also features local businesses and nonprofit organizations’ booths with games, information and shopping. As festival goers go beyond the vendors an assortment of classic carnival rides awaits them.
Children on carnival rides pretended to fly small planes and helicopters grinned from ear to ear while infants in slings and strollers took in their first Blueberry Festival close to their mom. In addition to all the rides and games, children had the option of playing on the park’s playground.
An Aug. 15 Car & Bike Show will commence at 5:30 p.m. The Brighter Side will perform at 6 p.m. followed by Mojo Flo at 8:30 p.m.
The festival runs through Aug. 17. For a complete schedule of events visit www.lexblueberryfest.com
