The Richland County Sheriff's Department investigates the death of Deborah Hovestadt on Monday, July 7 near Lexington.

On Monday morning at approximately 10:13 a.m., the Richland County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to 1273 Kings Corner East Road near Lexington in reference to a gun shot. Upon arrival, Deborah Hovestadt, 41, was found responsive with a gunshot wound.

There were relatives inside the home. Later, Hovestadt was pronouced dead by Richland County Coroner Stewart D. Ryckman.

At the scene Chief Deputy Joe Masi stated, “There appeared to be some sort of domestic or disagreement between a male subject and her. But the circumstances of the shooting are under investigation.” He noted that a revolver was involved.

At 3:55 p.m. on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office issued an update that stated: Detectives interviewed persons who were inside the residence when the incident occurred. One of the persons interviewed was Darryl Jerome Taylor, who was later arrested for Having a Weapon Under Disability. He is currently incarcerated at the Richland County Jail.

The sheriff’s department and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation is currently investigating the incident.

Interviews were conducted on the scene by the Sheriff’s Department. Darryl Jerome Taylor was later arrested for having a weapon under disability. He was taken to the Richland County Jail where he is currently incarcerated.
