On Saturday, May 3, Advance Auto Parts in Shelby will be hosting a Car Care Clinic and Accident Response Demonstration. Their main aim is to educate men and women on general car repair and maintanence. They will also educate the public on certain safety procedures when operating a vehicle or when in an accident.

The event will feature several community organizations like, Scarlet & Gray, Independent Auto, Sounds and Suds, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Shelby Fire Department, and Milliron. MedFlight will demonstrate what happens during a life flight with a helicoptor.

“I am a firm believer in education and helping people help themselves,” said Advance Auto Parts General Manager Michael Sheriff.

Sheriff served for 15 years in the Salvation Army before being hired at Advance Auto Parts. During his time in the Salvation Army he said he learned how to help others be successful. He says this philosophy is his and his wife’s mission statement in life.

This work ethic spurred him to the ideation of the Car Care Clinic back in the fall of 2013, which he hopes will endure in years to come. But it depends on the need, he said.

“If there is a need, people will respond to the need and we’ll keep doing this annually,” said Sheriff.

Sheriff and the employees (which he refers to as “team members”) are excited about the event on Saturday because it fits the store’s vision: “We don’t just sell parts. We educate people on how to get places safely,” noted Sheriff.

The event will be held at 228 Mansfield Avenue in Shelby from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. There will be refreshments, door prizes every half-hour, and there is no cost. For more information, call 419-342-2062.
