Mansfield Police Officer James Moore intends to take it easy and spend time with his wife when he retires from the Mansfield Police Department on May 2, he said, during a farewell reception that was held Wednesday.

A Clear Fork High School graduate of 1968, Moore entered the Mansfield Division of Police in 1989. He served in the Community Service Bureau Patrol Section during most of his career. On March 2013, he was assigned to the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force.

In 2007 he received the Top Cop Award.

He credited his wife of 42 years, Tommie Moore, as a major support system while he served in the police department. “It was her support that helped me get through everything,” he commented. Together, James and Tommie Moore have three children: Jodi, Tammi, and Brandon Moore.

“But it was a good time,” he said of his work experience. “It’s been an honor to work for the City of Mansfield and the citizens here.”

His co-workers had nice comments to share about the retiring officer.

“If you give him a task, he gets it done right away,” said Police Chief Ken Coontz. “And consistently demonstrates a high degree of skill, integrity, and perseverance at his job.”

“From working on the streets with him, I know he was an asset to the department,” said Deputy Chief Keith Porch.

Safety Service Director Lori Cope added, “He’s someone you could always go to and count on.”

During the reception, Moore was presented with a merit award for his distinguished police service and with a retirement badge.

Moore thanked everyone for coming and said, “I would also like to thank God for His mercy and for keeping me safe all of these years.”

“Jim has our congratulations upon his retirement and our heartfelt thanks for his many years of loyal service. We wish him the greatest of success in the future,” Coontz said.
