Dr. Stephen Gavazzi, Dean and Director at The Ohio State University at Mansfield, and Dr. Dorey Diab, President at North Central State College, announced the formal launch of a survey Monday that will be used to assess campus and community relationships.
“We’re seeking information from the campus and the community in order to get a baseline where exactly it is we are right now in terms of the relationships that we have established and maintain as a campus…because we feel that although these efforts have been formidable, we have yet to really begin,” stated Gavazzi.
According to a press release, the relationships between campus and the surrounding community will be assessed through a set of three benchmark online surveys. The relationships will then be measured at intervals to assess changes.
The initial survey includes residents and employees in cities adjacent to the campus–Mansfield, Ontario, and Shelby. Residents and employees within these cities are encouraged to complete the online survey any time from May 12-30.
The survey takes approximately three to five minutes to complete and can be found here.
Additional survey target groups include OSU-Mansfield staff/administration, Mansfield board members, faculty and students; NCSC staff/administration, board members, faculty and students.
The campus surveys will be conducted in early fall, Gavazzi said.
“What we hope to get out of this is an understanding of how community residents and employers are currently looking at the relationship to our campus both in terms in the amount of effort that they see us putting into the relationship and the comfort level that people have with us,” Gavazzi said.
He added, “We hope to combine those two sets of information in a way that might help us to understand better what our relationship currently looks like and also begin to do some goal setting around the kinds of things that we would like to do in the future in order to increase the community’s perceptions of us as a resource and as a potential partner.”
Diab stressed the importance of unity, stating, “If we are to turn our community around, we’ve got to come together and do that.”
“OSU-Mansfield and North Central State College are very willing to take the leadership role to make that happen, but the leadership cannot make it happen on its own; it takes the whole team working together to do so.”
