The North Central State College Board of Trustees held their regular meeting at the Fallerius Technical Education Center in Mansfield Wednesday evening. The board discussed a tuition increase as well as a collaboration between The Ohio State University and the Richland County Economic Development Group (RCDG).
Among agenda items was the Consideration of Approval of Tuition Increase. The increase, if approved, will total $100 per 30 credit hours, or approximately $3.33 per single credit hour. The increase would generate $158,000 in revenue annually, according to Koffi Akakpo, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Business and Administrative Services. The item will be presented for a vote at the next board meeting.
Other agenda items included the Consideration of Approval of 2014-2015 Request for Early Head Start Funding Renewal Grant. Kimberly Washington, Director of the Child Development Center and Early Head Start at North Central State College spoke with the board via phone. Washington explained the requested amounts to cover operating expenses were $474,849 for the Early Head Start and $447,895 for the Child Development Center.
During the President’s report, Dorey Diab, Ph.D. announced that Dulcey Wagner, Student Scholar of the Year, and Ryan Van Riper, Student Scholar of the Year Runner Up, will attend the All-Ohio Academic Team Luncheon on April 30.
Board Chair Dwight McElfresh, Ph.D. discussed the recent presentation based on the collaboration between Richland Community Development Group and The Ohio State University. “It was very well done by the students,” he said. “As young people, they gave I think a very honest assessment of what Richland County has to offer young professionals. They had some great suggestions on how to improve the community to meet their needs. Of course they had lots of suggestions for economic growth, which Mansfield OSU and North Central were a part of that recommendation.”
Dr. Christ Ticoras, member of The Ohio State University at Mansfield Board of Trustees, presented a guest report.
Upcoming events announced included the NCO Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame on April 25, at 6 p.m. and the graduation picnic May 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Kee Hall, among others. More events can be found at the website.
Other items were discussed at the meeting, and interested parties may find more information at the President’s page.
