The wind was a bit to blame for the low turnout but high spirits of the first Shop Hop in Shelby. The Shelby Area Business Group Secretary (SABG) Jennifer Arms struggled in the downtown gazebo to keep items from flying off the table she had set up for the Shop Hop.
“Thursday’s aren’t a really good day and this wind is making things a little more difficult,” Arms explained, trying to hold down two signs and raffle tickets all at one time. “But it’s a first time event and we’re excited about it.”
Participants signed up at the gazebo then went to the participating businesses to collect “puzzle” pieces using the map they picked up at the gazebo. There were 13 pieces to gather before meeting up at Legends Sports Bar at 7 p.m.
Sharon Amato was at the gazebo signing up along with her son, Larry. “We heard about it at The Coolest Shop in Town,” Sharon explained, “so we decided to give it a try. It sounds like fun.”
The basket went to Laurie Metzger and Larry Amato won the 50/50 raffle.
An Easter bunny stood along Main Street greeting people passing by and a bridesmaid posed inside the storefront window at Connie’s Place.
SABG Vice President Julie Corwin was busy with a customer during most of the event and didn’t get to see how things were going, but said she did hear about the winners of the $100 basket of items from local shops and the raffle.
