The Richland County Joint Veterans Council (JVC), comprised of representatives from veterans groups or patriotic organizations of Richland County, recently elected new officers. For the first time a woman was elected to the position of Commander. 

The new JVC officers for the 2014 term include Commander Joan Wyatt, Sr. Vice Commander Bruce Phipps, Jr. Vice Commander Ken Holstine, Secretary/Treasurer Frank Russo, and Judge Advocate Douglas Theaker, Chaplain Denny Hempfield. Also elected were Sgt. at Arms Mike Swick, Three-year Trustee Burk Jisa, Two-year Trustee Bob Hutchison, and One-year trustee Pat Jennings. 

The Richland County Joint Veterans Council coordinates and supervises all matters of common concern to the organizations and veterans in general. The Richland County Joint Veterans Council organizes Veteran’s Day ceremonies, conducts the flag ceremony at the Richland County Courthouse to honor deceased veterans, puts flags on all of the Veteran’s graves on Memorial Day and supports various patriotic projects.

All veterans are welcome to attend and keep updated on vital information concerning veteran affairs.

The Joint Veteran Council meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at a different Post each month. The April meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 22 at AMVETS Post # 26, 1100 West Fourth Street, Mansfield, OH.
