The Mansfield Symphony will play its fourth performance of the season, “Wolfgang Unplugged: Mozart Does Mansfield,” Saturday, March 22 at 8 p.m. in the Renaissance Theatre.

The concert, under the baton of Maestro Thomas Hong, will include Mozart’s Overture to “Marriage of Figaro,” Piano Concerto No. 21 “Elvira Madigan,” a selection of familiar operatic arias and duets, and “Coronation Mass.”

“I think Mozart music is such a delightful way to introduce oneself to classical music, but also it’s timeless in that even if you have been a concertgoer all your life, the simplicity, the delightfulness, and the depth of Mozart’s music will help you to capture all the childlike love for music and love for life,” said Hong.

The concert highlights the Mansfield Symphony Chorus, under the direction of Dirk Eachus, as well as a number of local soloists, including Mansfield Symphony pianist Deborah Logan, mezzo-soprano Lori Turner, and tenor Samuel Hall. Hall is stepping in for Joel Vega, who recently became ill.

“The concert showcases many world-class musicians that are from Mansfield; we have spectacular singers along with our pianist Deb Logan, who not only are currently living in Mansfield, but also grew up in Mansfield, so that’s really exciting that we’ll be showcasing such spectacular talent that is right here in the community,” stated Hong.

He added that he is looking forward to showcasing the chorus again, which recently performed “Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony” and “Handel’s Messiah.”

Turner, who performed in “Handel’s Messiah” in December, said she’s looking forward to the upcoming performance. “There’s such a great variety with the different pieces we’re doing—vocal solos, piano solo, symphony, and symphony chorus—that together will bring a wonderful musical experience for the evening,” Turner said.

She will be singing opera arias and duets. “It’s fun to do opera arias because you get to play characters,” she mentioned.

Concertgoers are also invited to attend a post-concert meet and greet with the music director, soloists, and symphony members.

This concert is part of the Graham Automall 2013-2014 Renaissance Season, presented by Newman Technology, sponsored by an anonymous donor and with support from the Ohio Arts Council.
