Veterans may purchase an identification card at the Recorder’s Office within the Richland County Courthouse, 50 Park Ave. East, Mansfield, beginning Monday, March 17.
Recorder Sarah Davis informed this news Thursday afternoon, stating, “I am pleased that we can be of service to the veterans.”
To obtain an I.D., veterans should present their DD Form 214 along with $1 to the Recorder’s Office.
The I.D. incorporates information from the DD214, including the veteran’s name, address, discharge status, branch and dates of service. “The card is much easier to carry around, unlike the DD214, which can get easily shredded,” noted Tony Delong of the Richland County Veterans Service Commission.
Other advantages and uses of the card include burial benefits and voting purposes.
Doug Theaker of the Richland County Veterans Service Commission noted the significance of the card from a veteran’s perspective, saying “It becomes part of your life.”
Richland County is joining 22 other Ohio counties that offer veteran I.D.’s.
“On behalf of the 11,283 living Richland County veterans, we commend Sarah Davis and the Richland County Recorder’s Office for their initiative to honor our Americans, honorable veterans, and those veterans in Richland County that are currently serving on active duty,” said Delong.
