Uptown Curls Salon owner Sally Hoak has opened the salon’s doors and is ready for business.

“I wanted to create a cozy, comfortable atmosphere for people to come in and get your hair done,” said Hoak. Hoak purchased the building where Uptown Curls Salon is located in April 2013. “We didn’t have to do any major renovations. We replaced the floors and added the cabinets,” said Hoak.

Hoak began her career in 1997 starting out practicing in Columbus. From there, she went to L.A. Hair in Mansfield and then moved onto Details Hair Salon in Shelby.

Hoak shared that her husband, Tom, found the building online and he was the one who actually thought up of the name. “My husband thought of the name and I am not sure if he thought of the “Uptown Girls” song, but I think that is where it came from. Then we said the name and I just thought it was just a great fit. He has been just as excited as I am about this project,” said Hoak.

Hoak and her team offer a wide variety of hair services. Some of the services that are included are haircuts $18, hair cut and style $26, mens/kids cuts $12, up do/styling $40, all over color $40 and up, foil highlighting $60 and up, partial foil $40 and up, perm $60 and up, and waxing $8 per area.

Hoak opened Uptown Curls Salon on Feb. 1 and has Kathy Roub and Sam Kaiser by her side at the salon. Roub shared that she has been practicing for almost ten years and Kaiser has been practicing for about six years.

“I like making people feel good. It doesn’t really feel like a job because I just love doing it. Your clients become family,” said Roub.

Hoak explained how the hours range at Uptown Curls Salon. “We are trying to do it where we go by appointments and each of us are booth renters. Basically we are closed on Sundays and open the rest of the week. Appointments are taken and walk-ins are welcome when we have the time,” said Hoak.

Kaiser shared that she will offer 10 percent off to anyone who wishes to have any chemical service on their hair the first time. Kaiser works on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Roub said that she will be in the salon at least five days a week.

On March 23, Uptown Curls Salon host an open house from 12-4 p.m. “People can stop by and I will have an Origami seller here and maybe someone from Mary Kay. Sam will do drawings for free services and some of the services will include haircuts and waxes, “said Hoak.
