Although not depicted by the county’s climate conditions, Discovery School hopes to bring the beach to the Mansfield Art Center on Saturday, March 8 for its annual beach party auction.
This silent and live auction will be held 6:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Items from over 65 local establishments will be available for purchase and refreshments will be provided by Ed Pickens Café on Main.
Annette Schutjer, development director at Discovery School, said that the auction will feature gift cards for boutiques, salons, and spas; tickets to the Renaissance, COSI, Great Lakes Science Center and sporting events; dance and taekwondo lessons at NexGen Fitness and Nutrition; classroom art projects and classroom-themed baskets; jewelry pieces from Bohland Jewelers & Haring Jewelers; handcrafted furniture pieces; among many other items in the auction.
“Proceeds raised from this event provide a significant part of our budget for general operating funds and financial assistance for students attending Discovery School since tuition does not fully cover the cost to educate a child,” Schutjer stated.
Tickets cost $15 per person or $25 per couple. They may be purchased at Discovery School prior to the event or the evening of the auction at the door.
As noted on the website, Discovery School serves children from preschool through eighth grade. Because it is a nonprofit school and tuition dollars do not meet the annual cost of educating the students and operating the facilities, it is necessary to raise additional money through fundraising.
