“Soupper Wrapper allows the public to come into Dowds and enjoy a meal with their family,” said Dowds PTO President Deserae Gray.

Buckeye Chrysler Jeep Dodge (Superstore” of Shelby visited Dowds Elementary School in Shelby in February to present them with a $1,000 check. On October 24, 2013, Dowds held their annual Soupper Wrapper event. “We offer soups and wraps for dinner and it is open to the public. It is by donation only. This has been the second year that we teamed up with Buckeye,” said Gray.

This is Gray’s first year as the PTO President and previously she served as vice president of the PTO for two years.

Gray explained that Buckeye Chrysler Jeep Dodge brings between three and four vehicles for people to sign up to drive. “All you have to do is show your driver’s license and they let you drive the vehicle around the block. The cost to drive a car is $20 and an employee of Buckeye will ride in the vehicle, too,” said Gray.

The program was called “Drive For The Kids” and was a school fundraiser that is sponsored by Chrysler.

Gray revealed that partnering with Buckeye through “Soupper Wrapper” has been a positive experience. “The employees of Buckeye have just been so friendly and all of them are so kid -friendly. It really has been great being able to work with them through this,” said Gray.

However, Gray revealed that this event will be a little different next year. “For the 2014-15 school year, we want to make this event more like a Fall Festival. We want more activities and more involvement for people that come to the event. We would like do hayrides or pumpkin designs and we still want to work with Buckeye next year,” said Gray.

Gray said that the goal behind the event is to make everyone feel comfortable when participating. “We want to make sure that we keep the Fall Festival very comfortable and informal for everyone. Dowds is just such a great school,” said Gray.

“The employees of Buckeye have just been so friendly and all of them are so kid -friendly. It really has been great being able to work with them through this,” said Deserae Gray.
