The Homeless Gospel Choir will be making its way to Relax, It’s Just Coffee on Friday, February 21.
The Homeless Gospel Choir features Derek Zanetti on acoustic guitar. Zanetti has been traveling and playing music as Homeless Gospel Choir for about five years. Zanetti once played music in different bands, but decided he wanted to play for a broader audience.
“I wanted to change the medium in which I performed for because I used to play in punk bands and that is not something that always appeals to everyone,” said Zanetti.
A resident of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, he has toured throughout the country and played in Mexico and Canada. The Feb. 21 show will be his third trip to Mansfield.
The type of music that Zanetti performs he described as “folk punk with a feel of Bob Dylan”. He shared that he will be performing songs from his new album, “I Used To Be So Young”, which will be available in the spring.
“I always had a deep interest in music and I realized that the corporate world just didn’t really appeal to me. I decided to pursue a career in art, literature, and music,” said Zanetti.
Along with performing his music at Relax, It’s Just Coffee, Zanetti will also be reading excerpts from his first book, “Existentialism The Musical”. Zanetti shared that the book took over 30 years to write and it is composed of short stories.
“The book really talks about how there is no normal in this world. In the book I talk about my personal experience with religion and politics and how I became comfortable in my own skin,” said Zanetti.
Zanetti said that this will be the first time that the book has been shared outside of Pennsylvania.
Matt Miller of Endless Mike and The Beagle Club will be accompanying Zanetti at Relax, It’s Just Coffee. “Matt plays guitar for Endless Mike and The Beagle Club and he will be playing some tunes as well at the show,” said Zanetti.
The show is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Relax, It’s Just Coffee located at 105 N. Main Street.
