Finding the perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day with a loved one can be challenging at times. However, here in Richland County, local businesses provide a wide variety of special ideas for this sentimental holiday.
Daron’s Greenhouse & Floral located in Plymouth on 7386 Plymouth-Springmill Road, will make it a top priority to brighten up Valentine’s Day with a variety of flowers from which to choose.
Daron’s has been in business for 13 years, but the floral shop was added almost two years ago. Marketing Director Ben Daron shared that Daron’s is a full time florists shop. “We do weddings, funerals, sympathies, prom, homecoming, and of course Valentine’s Day. We really try to keep with the different seasons that way we are hitting everyone’s need,” said Daron.
There is a wide range of gifts to choose from in the floral shop. “We have Crossroads Candles, crafts, and stuffed animals as other gift options,” said Daron.
The floral shop will be offering five dollars off a $50 purchase or more. “Roses are our featured arrangement, but we can do anything that the customer would like. We are hoping to start early with getting arrangements designed, but we have a ton of flowers with a huge selection,” said Daron.
Flower specials leading up to Valentine’s Day include the Romance Bouquet. This bouquet has roses and cremones. There is also a variety of colors of roses and carnations are also available. Flowers can be ordered online at www.daronfarms.com or picked up at the floral shop.
“We do deliver flowers, too. We can make sure the flowers are delivered on Valentine’s Day and we do accept walk-ins that would like an arrangement designed,” said Daron. However, Daron did recommend customers call ahead and check on availability of flowers for a special arrangement. Daron’s Greenhouse & Floral can be reached at 419-347-7327.
Flowers aren’t the only way to go. How about some sparkle?
The Connection in Shelby is located at 36 East Main Street and owners Cindy and Steve Carroll offer a variety of jewelry and antiques. This full service jewelry store has been open for a little over a year. The store was recently expanded in November, thanks to rapid growth for the business.

Enjoying a special dinner with a loved one may be the ideal way to spend the evening on Valentine’s Day. Steve’s Dakota Grill, located in Mansfield on 3101 Park Avenue West, has a warm atmosphere and has different specials that will meet the needs of customers looking to enjoy a special evening together.
Steve’s Dakota Grill’s General Manager Edgar Dominguez described the specials that will be offered on Valentine’s Day. “We will have steak and lobster tail that is called the “Loving Couple.” The steak that comes with the meal is a 10-ounce sirloin. We have our prime rib and it has been voted the best prime rib in town for the past four years,” said Dominguez.
In addition to those specials, there’s also a one pound lobster tail. Steve’s Dakota Grill has an extensive wine list and there will be a special Valentine’s Day drink created for the evening. Happy hour will be from 4-6 p.m. on Valentine’s Day and while customers sit at the bar, they will receive $1.50 off drinks.
And romance does happen at Steve’s. Dominguez sais that he has witnessed two proposals on previous Valentine’s Days.
“We have had two proposals here and both men had called ahead and told us they were planning on proposing. We try to decorate the table for them to help with that special moment,” said Dominguez.

Sweet treats are a delicious conclusion for a special Valentine’s Day. Black Bird Bakery, located in Mansfield at 105 North Main Street, has a range of baked goods that will satisfy that sweet tooth.
Owner Desra Wells decided to take a chance and started baking. Wells sells her baked goods at Relax, It’s Just Coffee.
“I actually ran into a friend of mine and they suggested I get in contact with Paul Kemerling and now we are here with them. We are always looking to try something new and everything has been going very well. Downtown Mansfield has been a great and the local businesses have been very supportive. Paul has been great to work with, too,” said Wells.
Wells is assisted by Suzy Beeson. “Suzy does a really great job with making specialty breads. We have been a good team,” said Wells.
Cookies, cakes, pies, breads, and pastries are some of the items that are available at Black Bird Bakery. For Valentine’s Day, special heart cut-out cookies and “sweetheart cakes” are available.
“Our sweetheart cakes are just big enough for two people to enjoy. The sweetheart cakes are chocolate and you can have them filled with chocolate or raspberry filling on the inside. We are willing to accommodate any request,” said Wells.
The heart cut-out cookies are all reasonably priced. Wells shared that the size of the cut outs can vary depending on customer requests.
All ingredients that are used for the baked goods are whole ingredients. “We only use real butter, fresh fruit, and unbleached flour with our bakery,” said Wells.
