It came to my attention this morning that bananas are a dangerous fruit. It’s either that, or some people seriously need to pay more attention while operating a motor vehicle. I am not sure when the transition came from driving being a privilege to becoming a right; but as I look out my office window, I suddenly become very afraid.
I chose to share my experience this morning to bring people back to the responsibility of operating a motor vehicle. This vehicle can be a deadly weapon. Especially when wielded by operators who take this privilege for granted.
All I was doing was discarding my banana peel from breakfast this morning and on my way through the parking lot towards the office – BAM – I was hit by a car. Not just a car, but an SUV. Yes, I obviously survived and am sitting in my office. It was what happened afterward that left me astounded.
I can understand that the driver was probably as shocked as I was, but instead of removing herself from her vehicle to make sure that I was alright she gave me a “look” and kept driving.
My colleagues who were able to see the entire scene were amazed that she seemed upset that I was in her way.
This is what I am taking away from this experience:
1 – Motor Vehicles can push harder than my older sister did when we were young.
2 – Even though pedestrians have the right-of-way by law, some drivers don’t see it the same way.
3 – DISTRACTED DRIVING IS DANGEROUS! Driver’s need to pay attention to everything around them while operating a motor vehicle.
PS – I will still eat the “dangerous banana.” It is one of my favorite breakfasts.
