Residents in Richland, Ashland, and some in Morrow County experienced a power outage early Saturday evening with a blackout in areas outside of Bellville, in Butler, Mansfield, and Ontario. According to Tim Suter with First Energy’s Ohio Edison company as many as 32,000 residents were affected.
Richland Source Facebook readers also reported outages in Perrysville; Hayesville was also impacted and they are a Firelands Electric Cooperative customer.
Suter said the power outage which occurred, according to his report at 5:29 p.m., was the result of an insulator failure on a transmission line. The outage stretched out through the substation grid. He said the vast majority of customers’ service was restored by approximately 7 p.m. after the insulator was replaced.
