It took six frames, but tight game between against the Orville Red Riders went to the visiting Lexington Minutemen. The final score was 68-65.
Orville led at the end of the first (14-10) and at halftime (26-20). They even held the games largest lead in the second quarter at 24-15.
That did not happen again. Lexington shave 3 points off of the halftime lead in the next two quarters to send the game into overtime.
After a 3-3 tie in the first overtime set, Lexington outscored Orville 13-10 in the final frame to take home the win.
Scoring was spread evenly around Scott Hamilton’s Lexington squad. Joey Zahn (4 assists), Zach Temple (5 rebounds) and Matt Barkett each contributed 15 points on the night. Jonah Youssy came one point shy of joining the group, putting up 14 points.
Trevor Summers posted a game-high 25 points and 7 rebounds and Blake Dennis posted 16 points and 6 assists on Orville’s behalf.
Lexington converted 17 turnovers into 22 points. Orville capitalized on 12 turnovers for 10 points. The rebounding battle went in Orville’s favor 39-33.
The real difference on the stat sheet came at the charity stripe. Lexington went to the line hit 23 of 36 opportunities. Orville took just 8 trips to the line and mustard only 3 points off of free throws on the night.
The JV match went in Orville’s favor, 40-28.
